zlib Z_DATA_ERROR "invalid distance too far back"

If anyone else is looking for this: Internet wisdom says it’s corrupt input data, but one other cause could be that you misread the documentation and passed 32 (enable gzip and zlib decoding with header detection) to inflateInit2, but forgot to add a window size. Pass 32 + 15. Magic constants are bad.
